DNA
DNA tests for descendants of this family - myself and my two siblings are at Ancestry, Genesis Gedmatch, MyHeritage, and Family Tree DNA (from Ancestry tests in 2016). Gedmatch kit numbers: A799652, A608756, A678640. Associated family trees are at all these sites.
An online survey Who Are the Genealogists of Australia? prompted me to ask the question, when did my earliest ancestors come to Australia?
I checked my database and made a list of ancestors who arrived in Australia having been born elsewhere:
Oldest:
George Read and Harriet Nye, my greatX3 grandparents (5 generations back) arrived in South Australia on 29 February 1840. In 1851 George went off to the Victorian gold rush. He sent some gold to Harriet in 1852 when escorted consignments first arrived overland from Victoria. Harriet returned to England with her children after 19 years in South Australia.
One of her sons, Charles Read, returned to farm at Georgetown, South Australia. One of Harriet's grandsons (William Clark) migrated to Australia in 1885.
Newest:
My paternal grandfather, Cyril Terence Charles Kirby (born Cyril Karl Schulz) arrived in Victoria in 1919 from England.
In between these extremes there were two groups of arrivals:
Eight great X2 grandparents arrived in South Australia and Victoria (from England, Scotland, Ireland & Germany) between 1847 and 1855.
Two great grandfathers arrived in South Australia (from England) between 1883-1885.
